About DkIT

Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) has a history that stretches back to 1970, when it was founded as Dundalk Regional Technical College and established as an autonomous institute under the Regional Technical Colleges Act. The institute officially opened its doors to students in 1971, marking the beginning of over five decades of higher education, research, and innovation in the North Leinster-South Ulster region of Ireland. DkIT is partnering with Queen's University Belfast (QUB) to become a University College of QUB, with the formal agreement signed in 2025. Starting from September 2026, students will graduate with a Queen's University Belfast degree — one of the UK's most prestigious universities. Today, DkIT stands as the leading higher education provider in the North Leinster-South Ulster region. The institute has approximately 5,000 full-time students and 1,000 part-time students, alongside over 500 dedicated staff members, located on a beautiful 90-acre campus strategically situated halfway between Dublin and Belfast in Dundalk, County Louth.

The institute is increasingly recognized for its research and innovation efforts, with experienced researchers working in areas like advanced manufacturing, health sciences, digital technologies, sustainability, and applied business. DkIT maintains a global perspective, welcoming students and staff from all around the world. Strong international connections offer numerous opportunities for exchange programmes, collaborative research projects, and employment. With over 45 degree courses available and strong placement support, DkIT continues to make a positive impact by promoting collaborative learning, innovative research, vocationally-aligned degrees, and active community involvement. The institute offers flexible entry pathways for international students and is recognized for its industry partnerships, particularly in computing, engineering, nursing, and business, providing students with excellent employment prospects upon graduation.
